 Stonehenge was built in four stages beginning sometime around 3,100 B.C. Most of the remains we see today are from the final stage which dates to approximate ly 1,500 B.C. The megaliths, weighing up to four tons each, were transported o n land using rollers and sledges and by water on rafts. Mystery continues to shroud the sit e, but it is thought that the stones served as a prehistoric observatory. |
